Graphic Design for Forest Avenue Press

As graphic designer for Forest Avenue Press, I get to design book covers as well as fun stuff for the insides of books.

Our latest release is The Remnants, a novel by Robert Hill. Fall of 2016 will be extra exciting for me because not only will we be publishing Jamie Duclos-Yourdon's Froelich's Ladder (cover art just released - see below) but also City of Weird, the anthology I've been editing, of weird supernatural and sci-fi stories all set in my favorite weird city, Portland.

More info on the press is here.

And I was honored that our distributor, Legato, part of Perseus PGW, chose my Landfall cover design as the cover for their fall, 2015, catalog.

I'm really happy about the spine.

The Night, and the Rain, and the River is FAP's first short story anthology, edited by Portland writer and teacher Liz Prato

For this cover, I collaborated with letterpress artist Clare Carpenter of Tiger Food Press. I wrote a little bit about that experience here.

For the short story anthology The Night, and the Rain, and the River, we decided to do a special edition hardcover using a cover I designed around a second piece of artwork created for us by letterpress artist Clare Carpenter.

The Gods of Second Chances by Dan Berne is Forest Avenue Press' first novel. It came out March 1st, 2014, and launched with an overflow crowd of 140 plus at Powell's City of Books on March 9th.

Read ForeWord Reviews' great review of the book here.

You can buy the book in all the usual places, but my favorite place is here.

Mr Allred's Map - detail

Another kind of fun thing:

Stevan Allred hand-drew

his own simplified map for

the inside of the book,

charting the stories. When,

during the editing process

for the book, he wanted to

move things around, or add

details, I got to recreate his

handwriting and details and

switch things up. I was also

called upon to create grease

stains (seen in this detail)

and give the map its torn

paper edge.

A Simplified Map of the Real World, by Stevan Allred, came out in September, 2013.

A fun interview with Stevan is up on NW Book Lovers here.

You can buy it in all the usual places, but my favorite place is here.

Forest Avenue Press' very first publication, Brave on the Page: Oregon Writers on Craft and the Creative Life came out in October of 2012. I also had a flash fiction piece in the collection.
